Bernard Gewinner 1948 - 2021

Bernard "Bernie" Gewinner was born on January 2, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska. Bernie attended JFK 1967-1970. While at Kennedy, Bernie was a member of Phi Theta Chi fraternity, holding various offices at one time or another. Also Bernie was a member of the college's band. Bernie met and married Teresa Coleman, while at JFK. They were married for 50 years and had two sons. After Kennedy, Bernie was the owner and manager of a Dairy Queen in Hot Springs, Ark. Bernie died on April 29, 2021.

Bernard “Bernie” J Gewinner of Hot Springs Village went to be with his Heavenly Father on April 29, 2021 at the age of 73.

He was born on Jan 2, 1948 to Bernard Russell and Josephine Gewinner in Omaha, NE. Bernie went on to play two years for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team.

He wore many hats throughout his years, from restaurant work, truck driver, Dairy Queen owner, salesman, and a middle school teacher, his true passion. He returned to Hot Springs Village where he was active in the Shriners, the Men’s Chorale, The Village Players, and the Friday Morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast.

Bernie is survived by his wife Teresa of 50 years; two sons, Russ and his husband Scott of Benton, AR and Chris and wife LeeAnn of Huntington, IN. He adored his five grandchildren, Kain, Chase, Christian, Ronica, and Garrison and his two great-grandchildren Kierra and Weston with one more to come in August, Jeremiah. He was lifelong friends with Tom Evers whom he considered to be his brother.
