Dennis Dean Szewczyk, 60, of East Hartland, CT, formerly of Chicopee, MA, beloved husband of Marie (Lussier) Szewczyk, passed away Friday (April 20, 2012) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Holyoke, MA, son of the late John and Helen (Kaluza) Szewczyk. Dennis grew up in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School in 1970 and Springfield Technical Community College. He was employed for 38 years as a design checker at Alstom Power Systems in Windsor, CT. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Dawn and Craig Olsen of East Hartland, Holly and Jarred Hinton of Galesville, MD and two beloved grandchildren, Calvin and Caylee Olsen; a brother, John Szewczyk of Chicopee; four sisters, Roselyn and Steven Goulet of Granby, MA, Karen and Donald LaBonte of Cape Coral, FL, Susan Eno and Marianne Krawczyk, both of Chicopee, MA. He was predeceased by two brothers, Alan and Robert Szewczyk. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 25 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church, 116 Walnut Hill Road, East Hartland, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or East Hartland Volunteer Fire Department, 34 South Road, East Hartland, CT 06027.
Dear Marie,
I was so shocked to learn this afternoon of Dennis' death. We have been away, and missed hearing any news of his illness, so this came as if out of the blue. I remember so well Dennis' playfulness and teasing when Katharine (Santalla) was so very young, and used to spend time at your place. It's been so long since we have seen you. Dear Marie,I was so sad to read about Dennis as were Bobbi & Danielle.Dennis always showed his caring about me when I had my accident. He finally got his dream home site but his "dream home" changed. My condolences to all of you.Bobbi left this AM for Florida or we would be there Wednesday. I care deeply about you and how you will carry on as I cared about Dennis. Joyce Carlos
