RAYMOND DENNISTON OBITUARY

Raymond Steven Denniston III
Raymond Steven Denniston III passed away on January 28, 2022. He leaves behind both sorrow and love.

Very early in his life, Ray developed two lifelong passions: baseball and, while helping his father run local campaigns, the importance of supporting honest politicians who strive to make the world better. He was a history and politics junkie and a lifelong Yankees fan, but, most of all, he cared for people.
Ray worked on the first campaign of Nebraska state senator Loren Schmit, and then, as a Congressional intern, helped to organize an airlift of food aid to famine-stricken Biafra. Ray served as campaign manager for Ed Koch's successful run for New York City mayor, and he was part of the team that conducted Robert Kennedy's New York senate campaign. Later, he directed the internship program at the District of Columbia Public Defenders Office.
A lefty pitcher, Ray was drafted by a major league team, but the U.S. Army's draft superseded that of the baseball leagues. Ray's passion for baseball eventually led him to start Yardstick Bats, which made fine wood bats, and he delighted in supporting local teams along the Eastern Seaboard, subsidizing costs and mentoring coaches and players.
Ray Denniston was born in New Jersey on April 26, 1945 to Raymond Denniston, Jr. and Marion Berish Denniston. His survivors include his loving and heart-broken wife, Sue Kahn Denniston; mother, Marion; sister Donna Prybeck (Frank); niece, Devon (Kevin) Furr; nephews Steve and Ryan Prybeck; grandnieces and nephews and his nine beloved rescue cats.
Ray is buried in his beloved Virginia woodlands where the wildlife he fed corn to will visit his grave under the holly trees.
