Sue Daily-Smith 1951 - 2020
Sue (Daily) Smith, age 68, of Vian, Oklahoma, slipped away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2020 with her loving husband and son by her side. Sue was born on October 24, 1951, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Mannon) Daily.
Growing up she was raised and graduated school in Braggs, Oklahoma. She is known for her athletic ability especially on the basketball court. This accomplishment carried into her college career where she earned herself a spot on the John F. Kennedy College, Wahoo, Nebraska basketball team. It was during the transition between high school and college that Sue was asked to participate on the 1970 Olympic Basketball Team.
After attending college she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, before moving back to Oklahoma where she worked for a short time in Muskogee at a bank as a loan officer. In 1976, Sue started working as a Supervisor at Sequoyah Fuels in Gore, Oklahoma, where she spent 17 years. It was there that she eventually met the love of her life, Jimmy. On July 13, 1979, she married Jimmy D. Smith in Braggs, Oklahoma. To this union was born a son, Taylor Smith. Jimmy brought a daughter, Tracey Smith in the marriage. In 1993, after the closing of Sequoyah Fuels, the couple started Sue’s Recycling and Sanitation. They continue to run this business together.
Sue enjoyed life. She was a career driven woman and was well respected for her dedication to her job. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her “Granny”. She enjoyed fishing on the pond behind their house, being outside feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin, gambling, and spending time on Tenkiller Lake with her family and friends.
Survivors include: doting husband of 41 years, Jimmy, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Kevin Rogers, of Wichita, KS; son, Taylor Smith and partner, Ryan Arrowsmith, of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Tori and husband, Kaleb Taber, of Wichita, KS, Kreighton Rogers, of Wichita, KS, Rigley Arrowsmith, of Tulsa, OK; great grandchildren, Emmie and Briar Taber, and one additional great granddaughter on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of extended relatives and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pearl Walden, Joyce Prince; and brothers, Gene Daily and Joe Daily.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 21, at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK.
Services will be held at The Pines at Moser Farms in Vian, Ok located at 98616 Ok-82, Vian, Ok st 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22, 2020. Graveside services to follow at Box Cemetery.
